Rundale Palace

The Rundale palace is one of the most magnificent and bright examples of baroque and rococo. This outstanding monument of architecture was designed in the 18th century by the Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, as a summer residence for the favorite of the Russian empress Anna Ioannovna – Ernst Johann Biron, the Duke of Courland. Throughout its history, the palace has endured many tests on his way. But it didn’t affect the very image of the palace! The palace has beautiful park, with a garden of roses, fountains, green theater, and a labyrinth. This gorgeous building contains 138 rooms. After huge restoration this place turned into one of the most luxurious pearls of architecture. Halls, apartments, staircases, furniture, paintings, and other decorative elements allow visitors to plunge into the 18th century atmosphere. Now the Rundale palace is one of the most known sights of Latvia. The palace is used also for reception of the high-ranking foreign guests by the president of Latvia. This place is real treasure for fans of architecture and a magnificent interior!
